For example, there's a button on the stylus pen that's going to need power and where does that power come from? How does this all work together well? Let’s break it down!

Okay, I have an admission to make I can't literally break the S Pen because then I wouldn't be able to use it. What I can do is tell you and show you how it does what it does.

First things first. Where does the stylus pen get its power from? Actually, a circuit and a few other pieces of hardware laid out in a grid sit behind the screen and generate an electromagnetic field. Just so you know that's about as technical as we're going to get. As soon as the stylus pen gets in range, it starts to pick up that electromagnetic field. This by the way is right around where you'll start to see the hover icon appear on the screen.

Now inside the stylus pen near the front is a tightly wrapped coil that channels the energy from the field and uses it to power its own circuit.

Now here's where it gets really interesting the screen has nothing to do with using the stylus pen. That's right, nothing.

It's possible that you might have noticed this before but if you press the tip or nib of the stylus pen while it's close enough to the screen, it acts exactly as if you would just tap the screen. That's because the nib is basically another button on the stylus pen. It just happens to be pressure-sensitive.

How to Make a Stylus Pen

As we all know the stylus is especially helpful for intensive tasks such as doodles and Illustrations on our digital screens. So, what about making one by yourself?

What you will need

1) Ballpoint pen, preferably out of use.

2) Copper wire; if not available salvage it from an electric wire

3) Cotton is the most important item required.

The cotton will be used for the tip in the stylus. With all the stuff ready, let's begin!

First, take the refill out of the ballpoint pen. Then, take the copper wire and insert some portion of the wire through the pen's front then, take the rest and wind it closer to the portion where you usually grip the pen. The reason why we do this is that our phone screen usually takes input from our hands via electrical signals and hence for the stylus to work we would still have to continue relaying these signals.

Keeping it aside, let's work on the stylus' nib. Now, take some cotton and knead it in the palm of your hand. Make a piece out of it such that the ends are sharp with a thick center. This will be the tip of the DIY stylus. If required, use some water to knead it too.

Then, insert it into the pen body, from the back. Using the refill taken out, press the tip to the front of the pen. Pull the tip from the front also, to the required length. Use a pair of scissors to shape and shorten the tip. Further, knead the tip into a rounded nib shape.
